30,000 homes now signed up to EzyGreen
30,000 homes have signed up for the EzyGreen energy reduction program nine months ahead of schedule highlighting the commitment of Brisbane's residents to going green.
Since 12 July, 30,000 households have now signed up to EzyGreen, which offers residents a range of energy saving options, as well as sustainable energy options such as GreenPower and discounted solar hot water and power systems.
EzyGreen is a partnership between Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government and local corporate partners, including AGL, Ingenero, NAB, Crest, The Good Guys and Nope Electric Bikes & Scooters.
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman and Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said the response to the EzyGreen program will lead to thousands of tonnes of CO2 being removed from Brisbane's carbon footprint.
"Signing up 30,000 homes in less than eight weeks is an outstanding response and I thank these residents for their commitment to a more sustainable Brisbane," Cr Newman said.
"This take up is a great achievement in Brisbane's journey to becoming Australia's most sustainable city," he said.
A total of 3,796 households have requested the Queensland Government's ClimateSmart Home Service to reduce their home energy use, while 3,428 residents are looking at sourcing 20% GreenPower at no extra cost in their homes.
"This means 20% of energy is sourced from GreenPower accredited sources, which is one of the biggest actions you can take to reduce your household's carbon footprint," Cr Newman said.
"Queenslanders are to be congratulated for embracing this program so quickly and taking positive steps towards living a greener lifestyle," Premier Bligh said.
"We've seen a strong response to solar hot water and solar power systems available through EzyGreen, with 4,161 quotes provided for homes. It's a great step towards making Queensland the solar state," she said.
Brisbane residents are urged to sign up today to the popular EzyGreen program to make sure they take advantage of all the program benefits, including the free energy-saving powerboard.
With 30,000 free powerboards already distributed, there are now 20,000 powerboards remaining until 30 June 2011.
